BACKGROUND
The Computation Biology Division in collaboration with the Expression Analysis Group of the Department of Plant Systems Biology (VIB/UGent) (http://www.psb.ugent.be) has an open vacancy for a PhD student within the framework of a 3-year European research project. Start of the project: no later than April 1, 2006.RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Resume: We will study the regulatory network structure of one of the most fundamental biological processes in plants: flowering. An integrative approach will be applied to build a basic model of flowering in Arabidopsis thaliana. To do this, a Consortium is assembled of leaders in the fields of flowering biology, functional genomics technologies, database design and development, data analysis and modelling and simulation approaches. The main data stream generated de novo within the project concern transcript profiling, Chromatin Immuno Precipitation (ChIP) and proteomics data (Y2H).REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must have strong skills in mathematics or/and bioinformatics. Solid knowledge in Probability Theory and Statistics is an advantage. A strong interest in biology is essential, preferably the candidate has already some knowledge of this field. The candidate is supposed to prepare a PhD Thesis on modelling and simulation of flowering, developing and implementing techniques from Comparative Genomics, Motif finding, Data Knowledge Querying, Visualization, Probabilistic Modelling and Simulation. Good programming skills (Java or C/C++ and/or Perl) are required.PREFERENCES
