    Postdoctoral Position in Bioinformatics

    DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in bioinformatics at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Department of Cell Biology, in Martinsried/Munich (Germany). The research of the department is focused on the molecular mechanisms that govern cell division in human cells and includes large-scale mass spectrometry based proteomics studies.

The successful candidate will work within the â??Experimental Network for Functional INtegration,â?? (ENFIN) which aims at making computational systems biology accessible to bench scientists. An important task within our laboratory will be to subject our experimental data to bioinformatic analyses through creation of local databases and integration with the ENFIN platforms. In addition, close interactions with other groups within ENFIN are expected, in order to develop and optimize suitable data analysis tools (e.g. sequence and evolutionary conservation analyses, predictions of protein structures, protein interactions and posttranslational modifications).

    REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have extensive bioinformatics experience, including programming. (Applicants with a molecular biology background should be able to demonstrate a record of programming skills, whereas applicants with computer science background should document a strong interest in biology at a research level). Additional qualifications in the fields of mass spectrometry would be an advantage. Ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary environment will be critical.

    TERMS

The initial appointment will be for 2 years with the possibility of extensions for up to five years (in total).

    REMUNERATION

Depending on qualifications remuneration of up to group 13 TVöD (public service payment tarif scale) is possible.

    HOW TO APPLY

The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more disabled individuals and especially encourages them to apply. It also aims at increasing the number of female staff members in fields where they are underrepresented, and therefore encourages women to apply.
