BACKGROUND:
Following a substantial investment of £6.3M by BBSRC and EPSRC, the University of Manchester is pleased to announce a third tranche of Experimental Officer positions in Systems Biology for the new Manchester Center for Integrative Systems Biology (MCISB). These are externally funded for 5 years and will then become incorporated into the Universityâ??s baseline. The MCISB programme will largely be based in the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (http://www.mib.ac.uk). As part of this programme, we are presently seeking to fill the following position and invite applications from suitable, highly qualified team player who wishes to be part of this major initiative, as well as suggestions from other colleagues of highly qualified candidates.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This post involves the development of information management systems for the project, including ultimately whole-cell models; the postholder is expected to maintain an interest in and awareness of data standards for systems biology models (e.g. SBML) and their integration with other omics data standards, to maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical and algorithmic capabilities in these areas, to contribute to the development of a wider infrastructure including methods for the visualisation of complex biological networks and the development of distributed methods for data management and analysis, and to provide administrative support to colleagues for the relevant part of the project (for further details, see on http://www.mcisb.org or on http://www.manchester.ac.uk/vacancies).
REQUIREMENTS:
Postgraduate or more likely postdoctoral level qualification in Computer Science or Bioinformatics; the candidate is expected to have and to demonstrate expertise in state-of-the art methods of software development and information management in systems biology models of complex systems; further the candidate should have experience in data management, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work independently while being a committed part of a team.
TERMS:
Appointment for up to five years in the first instance, with potential to extend. This is a full-time post.
LOCALE:
Manchester; the MCISB will be housed in the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (http://www.mib.ac.uk), a major building and intellectual grouping being established within the University of Manchester.
COMPENSATION:
Salary will be up to £27,929 per annum according to relevant experience and qualifications.
