BACKGROUND
Reporting to the Director of the Integrated Genomics Core, the candidate will be responsible for the quality control of caWorkbench, a flexible, open-ended platform for bioinformatics data integration and analysis. This project is being carried out in cooperation with the NCI as a part of their high-profile caBIG project. The platform being developed allows programs or algorithms, which may be written with no knowledge of each other, to exchange data and to call on or provide visualization and data management services. This open-source platform distributes computations across, client, server and grid components, scaling from small local calculations to major cluster-based calculations. The types of data and algorithms encountered include sequence and microarray gene expression analysis, metabolic and regulatory network inference, and pattern detection and evaluation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Drafting of detailed test plan for overall development effort.
2. Development and execution of test scripts for system/regression testing.
3. Overall accountability for quality of official software releases.
4. Continuous collaboration with the development team to refine the integration of testing in the development process so as to minimize defects in software releases.
5. Identification of testing platform to use. The platform must be appropriate for the graphically intense nature of caWorkbench.
6. Responding to user queries submitted to the software mailing list.
7. Working closely with technical writers to document functionality. Review resulting documentation.

REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four (4) years of related experience. Experience with testing approaches for testing of graphics applications. Excellent communication and writing skills.

PREFERENCES

Master's degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or similar field. Experience with open source efforts. Understanding of Java programming.
