    BACKGROUND

    The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute leads the world in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding the role of genomes in biological systems.

    The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute boasts a world class high performance compute environment, consisting of a large network, a SAN with over 300TB of storage and a large compute farm of over 1000 nodes.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We are looking for two experienced Unix/Linux systems administrators with a strong high-performance computing background to join an established Systems Support Group. Ideally you will have a Bioinformatics/Biology related degree and/or knowledge of computational biology. You will need at least 3 years experience of running a large scale linux cluster, have good user support skills and be familiar with bioinformatics codes such as Blast. You must have an understanding of some of the following: Unix, Linux (including kernel customization and Linux kernel programming), clustered file systems and high availability systems.

    You will have strong shell/Perl scripting skills, as well as experience in scientific programming in C. Experience in database administration (Mysql or Oracle)would be a distinct advantage.

    TERMS

    Salary c. £35,000 dependant upon experience.
