We are interested in recruiting a person as a postdoctoral fellow (see requirements below) to join our group at the National Center for Biotechnology Information, National Institutes of Health, USA.
This position is available for a 2 year initial period, and a maximum of 5 years. Minimum salary would be US $36,000, but will scale with credentials and experience to the range of US $50,000.

REQUIREMENTS:
We are considering people with two different kinds of research capabilities:
1) A person recruited in this capacity will be employed primarily in a technical support capacity for the group, but is encouraged to have his/her research projects.
- Good communication skills in English (both written and speaking).
- Computational skills: Excellent programming skills, with PERL being the main language. The candidate would be involved in writing perl modules, preparing web interface, and generating graphics. Java programming is not a must.
- Bioinformatics skills:
Structure visualization and manipulation: Knowledge of swisspdb, pymol, rasmol, etc. Ability to parse and calculate various structure parameters from PDB files.
Knowledge base: Working knowledge of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Structural Biology. Intermediate level statistics. Understanding of the algorithmic theory of sequence and structure analysis.
Plus points: Expression data analysis (microarray data analysis). Systems administration skills. Hardware skills.
- Educational qualification: PhD International candidates are also encouraged to apply. Ideally the candidate should be within 4 years of completion of degree.
- Good communication skills in English (both written and speaking).
- Candidates will be assessed for originality and creativity. Should be self motivated and have a strong drive for research.
- Desired qualifications
Interest and abilities relating to any of the following topics--protein structure and function, and evolution of proteins, biological networks and gene expression analysis will be highly appreciated.
b. Necessary technical requirements:
Sequence analysis: Should have a knowledge of basic packages, BLAST suite of programs. Good knowledge of phylip, molphy and phylogenetic programs. Good knowledge of sequence alignment programs such as t_coffee, muscle, etc. Basic knowledge of algorithmic theory of sequence analysis.
Structure visualization and manipulation: Knowledge of swisspdb, pymol, rasmol, structure of PDB files.
Knowledge base: Intermediate level statistics. Basic understanding of the algorithmic theory of sequence and structure analysis. Ready knowledge of PERL programming.
