BACKGROUND

PRIME is a Coordination Action funded by the EU (http://www.prime-eu.org). One of its aims is to coordinate database resources for mouse functional genomics across Europe. This position will continue the development of EuroPhenome,a database for ouse phenotype data and set up a data capture system for it. RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a software engineer to lead the software development of the EuroPhenomme database. The postholder will be based in the Bioinformatics Group and will interact with related groups across Europe. The appointed candidate will be responsible for developing the next version of the EuroPhenome database, which will capture data from numerous European centres. In addition they will be involved in the research and development of data mining and knowledge extraction interfaces to EuroPhenome alongside subsequent integration with phenotype ontologies.

REQUIREMENTS

A first degree (or higher) in Computer Sciene and/or appropriate experience in computer programming and/or establishing databases. Candidtes should be proficient in Java and have experienceof relational database design and implementation. Experience of the following technologies would be advantageous; Apache; web interfaces; application severs; web services. Some knowledge of biology and an interest in the application of computing techniques to the storage and manipulation of biological data would be an advantage.
