    BACKGROUND

    Extensive knowledge in computer sciences or related fields demonstrated through education (a MasterĂ¢??s degree or a B.S. degree with working experience) or equivalent experience. Experience writing and debugging scientific application software in LAMPP environment (Linux, Apache, Mysql or postgreSQL, Perl/PHP/Python). Knowledge of hardware, network, security management, and Mac OS and Windows operating systems. Knowledge and demonstrated skills working with High Performance Computing platform (Beowulf clusters).

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The responsibilities of this position are to design, implement and manage computing infrastructure that are suitable for bioinformatics applications. Develop pipelines on High Performance Computing clusters for large scale sequence, structure, system and functional annotations and predictions, and responsible for documenting the work and training users to utilize core resources for their research needs.

    REQUIREMENTS:

Special Conditions of Employment: Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Non smoking work environment. Work occasional varied lunch hours. Work occasional overtime, evenings/nights, weekends and holidays as needed, usually on short notice to meet operational needs. Physical Requirements: Position requires lifting up to 50 lbs.

    LOCALE

    This position is located in: UC Davis Genome Center and is not represented by a union. Working hours: M-F, 8-5.

    The UC Davis Genome Center is a campus-wide initiative integrating experimental and computational approaches to address key problems at the forefront of genomics. The Bioinformatics core provides expertise and infrastructure to carry out complex data sets acquisition, curation, distribution as well as to develop and perform computations, analyses and simulations addressing a wide variety of biological questions from genomics and systems biology. The services provided by the core is on a recharge basis to all campus researchers.
