BACKGROUND

Applications are invited for a 3-year Post-Doctoral training fellowship within the group of Dr Richard Morris in the Department of Computational Biology at the John Innes Centre, UK (JIC).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The post holder will:

Develop computational approaches for studying cell development, bacterial growth, biofilm formation and differentiation

Contribute to computational Systems Biology approaches

Contribute to ongoing software developments within the group

Promote computational techniques in plant and microbial science, to publish the research in dedicated refereed journals and present at conferences and workshops

Interact with other JIC researchers from various groups and to contribute to a sound embedment of computational biology within JIC

REQUIREMENTS

Candidates should have a very strong mathematical and physical background to PhD level with extensive experience in scientific computing for numerical applications. Good overall scientific knowledge and awareness with good communication/organisational skills and an interest in biology are essential. A Good working knowledge of either C, C++, Fortran or Matlab and a scripting language such as Python or Perl together with experience in setting up mathematical models for biological problems and a knowledge of cell biology are desirable. The post holder will receive additional professional development training as well as on-the-job training and mentoring. The successful applicant will benefit from the specific elements of training leading to the JIC post-doctoral training certificate.

TERMS

This 3-year position is offered under the terms of the BBSRC Training and Career Development Scheme.

COMPENSATION

Salary on appointment will be within the range £23,022 to £26,541 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. JIC offers a choice of final salary and stakeholder pensions.
