Opportunity Sought : Full Time or Long Term BIOINFORMATICS Position

To whom it may concern:

I am searching for a bioinformatics position to begin my career. I will be graduating with a masters in Biology this summer. Currently, I am a graduate assistant at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey where I am pursuing a masters of science in biology. I am working on the computerized three-dimensional reconstruction of a microspridian spore. Previously, I had a fellowship at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland where I was part of a clinical research team studying the metabolic profile of women with Turner Syndrome. I created, maintained, and updated databases for our patient data and scheduled research participants in addition to performing statistical analysis of our data. I also did contract work as a Documentation Specialist at Satellite Logistics Group in Houston, Texas where I created technical documentation for the IT department.

I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science and Bionformatics. As an undergraduate, I had two bioinformatics internships. My first internship was at Pomona College in Claremont, California, where while working under Dr. Nicholas Schisler, I created a mirror of the GenBank database, installed PISE software, and wrote PERL and shell script programs. The second internship was at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology in Atlanta, Georgia where under the supervision of Dr. John Cairney, I identified genes involved in loblolly pine embryogenesis. I performed BLAST and CLUSTALW searches and alignments. I then designed primers and used these primers in molecular biological techniques in order amplify and identify the genes. For my senior bioinformatics group project, I stored and analyzed polymorphisms in regions one and two of the Anderson Sequence. I created an Oracle 9i database and interactive web interface with HTML/XML. In order to manipulate the database, I wrote middleware in PERL and SQL. The group members divided responsibilities, and consulted in order to bring the whole project together.

Although I have a background in the sciences, I am an exceptional communicator who enjoys giving presentations. I am a team player who works well alone as well as in a group because I am a diligent worker and a people person. I would like a career that will exploit my knowledge and allow me to interact with a great team.
