    BACKGROUND

    The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) is storing and providing the public portal for several whole genome association studies (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/WGA/), such as the groundbreaking Genetic Association Information Network (GAIN; http://www.fnih.org/GAIN/GAIN_home.shtml) and the Framingham Genetic Research Study (http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/new/press/06-02-06.htm). These studies aim to discover associations between genetic variants and risk for disease.

    Computercraft seeks computational biologists with a background in genotype analysis to work with NCBI scientists to develop infrastructure to analyze large-scale genomic data with clinical phenotype data.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities will include genotype analysis pipeline development, data reformatting, data quality control, management of a relational database, data curation, and communication with external investigators. This is an opportunity to be involved in the development of a new resource with the potential to revolutionize human genetic disease research. Please note there are several openings in this expanding group.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ph.D. or M.S. or sufficient experience in genetic linkage analysis and/or allelic association studies
    • Scripting experience in Perl
    • Relational database experience (SQL)
    • Linux/UNIX experience
    • Ability to work with a team in a production environment and communicate well with NCBI biologists and programmers as well as external scientists
    • Strong interest in contributing to the development of public database resources
