RESPONSIBILITIES

Stanford University's Department of Genetics has an excellent opportunity available for a motivated and experienced senior bioinformatician to help maintain and enhance several genome database projects. This primarily involves working as part of a small team of programming professionals in direct collaboration with curatorial and systems management staff to enhance large Perl/CGI web applications used by researchers worldwide. Your programming tasks will include the creation of generic, portable software modules that interact with Oracle and MySQL databases to allow users to retrieve, analyze and visualize genomic and proteomic information over the web. This position will work within the Saccharomyces Genome Database, Gene Ontology projects – all funded by the National Institutes of Health.

REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you should have a 4-year degree in a related field (advanced degree preferred), interest and expertise in data analysis, visualization, and bioinformatics as applied to genomic datasets, and several years of experience in bioinformatics and genome database construction or similar experience with the development of a public resource project. Technical expertise in software engineering and several years of experience with UNIX are essential, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills, and experience with CVS, Perl or other scripting language, HTML and CGI. Experience with relational databases, BioPerl, and BLAST is highly desirable. Experience with C/C++, Java, JavaScript, AJAX, XML, XHTML and/or software development environments is desirable.
