    DESCRIPTION

The post holder will develop computational methodology for the analysis and interpretation of cutting edge functional genomics experiments employing high-density tiling arrays for transcription and DNA-protein interactions, and/or genome-wide RNAi assays for loss-of function phenotypes and genetic interactions. The position has two components: close, project-oriented interaction with experimental collaboration partners on design, analysis and interpretation of experiments, and development of new statistical and computational approaches. The position is based in the Research Group of W. Huber at the European Bioinformatics Insitute (EBI), an outstation of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Cambridge, UK. It offers excellent opportunities for collaborations with both experimental and computational researchers. Willingness to travel for visits to project partners is desirable.

    REQUIREMENTS

The position would be suitable for a PhD scientist from a quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, physics) wishing to do research in biology, as well as for a biologist with quantitative and programming skills. Strong quantitative skills, interest in new technologies and in biology, and experience in a high-level language such as R or Matlab for the analysis of primary experimental data are required. Knowledge of further languages (C/C++), statistics and mathematics, and a good publication record are desirable. Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.

    HOW TO APPLY

To apply for this post, please a cover letter, CV, list of publications and the names and addresses of at least three referees quoting ref. no. BIO/06/PD/05 in the subject line to: application[at]embl.de
