BACKGROUND

This position will report be responsible for the coordination of activities between the Emory Vaccine Center (EVC) and the Institute of Systems Biology (ISB) in Seattle. The successful candidate will support an NIH sponsored Human Immunology Center grant entitled, â??Vaccine Induced Immunity in the Young and Agedâ??. This is a multi-investigator/multi-institution project with the goal of determining the molecular signatures of innate and adaptive vaccine responses in the young and aged.

Must be a highly motivated team player and demonstrate initiative and creativity. Must be able to function independently and able to establish and meet project deadlines. Travel between sites will be required. This position would be ideal for an immunologist with strong microarray bioinformatics skills or for a microarray core analyst with a background in Immunology/Microbiology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for DNA microarray analysis and interpretation in a cutting edge genomic research environment at an academic and medical school research institution. Will be involved in the identification and implementation of current and essential microarray software and analysis protocols. Works directly with the researcher and the biostatistician in development of appropriate analysis procedures. Leads and coordinates the project. Consults with faculty in the goals of the project. Oversees the inter-departmental research project; manages relations with outside contractors for project completion. Uses independent investigation and judgment in developing and applying analytical solutions. Develops short-term and long-term deadlines for the project. Assists in the creation, development and management of databases designed to house the projectsâ?? experimental microarray data.

REQUIREMENTS

Masterâ??s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biology or genetics. Five years of computer experience in a microarray research or bioinformatics field. Experience with a microarray software package including cluster analysis and statistics is required. A practical knowledge of molecular biology databases, UNIX and familiarity with Perl, CGI, databases, (such as Oracle, Postgres), SQL and molecular databases is preferred.

PREFERENCES:
Knolwedge of UNIX, database technologies, and programming (Perl, Java, C++)
