REQUIREMENTS

University degree in Computer Science or related discipline, plus minimum one year of J2EE experience developing web-based user interfaces, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with CVS or other version control. Experience with Eclipse or equivalent IDE. Knowledge of desktop GUI development, such as Swing, preferred. Knowledge of biological concepts preferred. Ability to produce high-quality code based on requirements and specifications worked out with other team members. Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

JOB SUMMARY:
To work as a software developer on bioinformatics software development projects in the UBC Bioinformatics Centre. Major responsibilities include: implementing and maintaining Java software for bioinformatics applications using modern software development techniques including test-driven development, issue tracking, and version control; developing code according to team-established quality standards; developing tests for software, creating test data and testing code; performing implementation responsibilities involving multiple aspects of system including web client interfaces, database loading, and middleware services; maintaining existing code base; documenting software using Javadoc and Confluence (Wiki); documenting and reporting progress and task completion; and performing other related duties.
