BACKGROUND

Applications are invited for a Support Biostatistician, required to support the John Innes Centreâ??s scientific research by:

1) Delivery of computational statistics support to JIC scientists. This includes advising on experimental designs, statistical programming assistance and statistics-related queries.
2) Writing and delivering training courses in computational statistics.
3) Scoping and reporting on areas where computational statistics may make a significant contribution to JIC research.

REQUIREMENTS

Candidates should have a MSc or equivalent in biometry or applied statistics together with a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience, a PhD would be desirable. The ability to work with scientists in a research environment with the interest to quickly understand and distil life scientific problems into information scientific formulations with expert-level knowledge of S-plus/R and GenStat are also required. The ability to work independently, communicate clearly, plan time well, conduct interactions with colleagues and collaborators in a professional manner together with a strong ability to present analyses and teach course material are also essential. Strong scripting and programming skills in UNIX-like environments would be desirable.

COMPENSATION

Salary on appointment will be within the range £23,022 to £26,541 per annum. The post attracts an additional retention and recruitment allowance of £3,800 to £6,000 per annum depending on starting salary, this is currently in place until 31 Dec 2006 and to be negotiated after that date. JIC offers a choice of a final salary and stakeholder pensions.
