    Bioinformatics Analyst I/II

    ABOUT US

    The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR, located in Rockville, MD, is a not-for-profit center dedicated to deciphering and analyzing genomes and is the world leader in microbial genome sequencing. TIGR's research is contributing to the development of vaccines, expanding the understanding of human pathogens, aiding the fight against bio-terrorism and deepening our understanding of the environment. We are currently seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst I to join the Bioinformatics team at TIGR.

    DESCRIPTION

    The Bioinformatics Analyst I position will support the manual gene annotation and data analysis needs of multiple microbial genome projects.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Gene structure annotation, including assessing different lines of computational evidence
    • Gene function annotation, including assigning informative names and classifying gene products by biological function and/or process
    • Prediction of biochemical pathways based on functional annotation
    • Data mining and analysis using various internal resources, public databases and publications
    • Interpretation of complex biological information
    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Bachelors or Masters Degree in the biological sciences
    • Knowledge of microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and/or molecular evolution
    • Experience using computers to perform DNA and protein sequence analysis
    • Prevoius experience using Sybase or other relational databases
    • SQL experience preferred
    Experience with the Unix/Linux operating system and programming tools preferred
