    BACKGROUND:
    This is a renewable three-year contract position in which the appointee will play an integral part in the provision of bioinformatics training and services at Stellenbosch University. The position will particularly suit a highly motivated and adaptable individual, capable of performing a wide range of tasks.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Providing bioinformatics training
    • Managing user support and services
    • Conducting some research, either independently or in collaboration with other bioinformatics researchers at the University (the research focus of the Stellenbosch Bioinformatics Node is computational systems biology)
    • Developing and teaching an undergraduate Bioinformatics module
    • Co-operating with the bioinformatics nodes of other universities within the South African National Bioinformatics Network
    • - Facilitating the dissemination of data and services to the national network.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A postgraduate degree, preferably a PhD, in Bioinformatics or a related field
  • Good computational skills, including knowledge of at least one modern programming language and a desire to learn additional skills rapidly.

PREFERENCES

  • Previous experience in bioinformatics training or service provision
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Knowledge of the Linux Operating System.

TERMS

COMPENSATION

The annual remuneration package will be up to a level of ZAR 300 000, commensurate with the appointeeâ??s qualifications and experience.
