BACKGROUND

Astex Therapeutics is a drug discovery company based in Cambridge, UK. We have pioneered the use of fragment-based approaches to drug discovery and have a strong commitment to x-ray crystallography and structure based drug design. Using this technology, we have built up a pipe-line of clinical candidates in the area of oncology. Astex has a strong computational chemistry and informatics group that has developed a number of proprietary technologies to support fragment-based drug discovery. RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a bioinformatician/database programmer to work with our database group, initially on a one year contract. This position will involve maintenance of our existing company database and the opportunity to develop new applications within it as necessary. There would also be some scope to develop bioinformatics applications for use within the company.

REQUIREMENTS

The candidate would typically be in possession of an MSc in bioinformatics and would have up to 2 years of relevant programming experience. Experience with relational databases and software development in Perl is highly desirable.
