Postdoctoral fellow in bioinformatics

RESPONSIBILITIES
A postdoctoral position in bioinformatics is available as part of the bovine genomics initiative at the University of Alberta. The successful candidate will develop bioinformatics tools and methods for the characterization of genes associated with economically important livestock traits. This work will involve the analysis of protein sequences, DNA sequences, SNPs, genotype data, and phenotype information. Close interactions with several groups at the University of Alberta will provide opportunities for participation in a variety of other exciting projects.
PREFERENCES
Applicants should have a strong interest in both the computational and biological aspects of bioinformatics, and should have experience with biological sequence analysis, object-oriented programming, Linux-based operating systems, and Java or Perl. Familiarity with relational databases, computing clusters, and machine learning is an asset. Additional information is available at http://www.ualberta.ca/~stothard/
