EMBL (http://www.embl.org) located in Heidelberg, Germany is seeking a Bioinformatics Software Developer to join the Biological Sequence Analysis group of Toby Gibson at EMBL. The group develops and applies biological software tools in the analysis of protein data and is a co-developer of the widely used Clustal W alignment software. We support and develop a number of public bioinformatics web servers, notably the Eukaryotic Linear Motif resource, ELM (http://elm.eu.org). The new project is to design, create and implement a proteome-scale epitope selection pipeline as a resource for selecting antibody targets as part of the EU funded ProteomeBinders consortium. The resource should also have a public web front end to support (potentially numerous) small-scale users. The resource will be synthetic in nature, harnessing many relevant existing tools and services, both local and remote. As appropriate, technologies such as web services and GRID may be deployed. The project will suit a software engineer who seeks to work with modern scripting and web technologies and will gain satisfaction from creating a practically useful Bioinformatics resource.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant will have a PhD or an advanced university degree plus several years work experience. The candidate may have worked in web development, ideally in a Bioinformatics context. Familiarity with some relevant languages from among HTML, XML, Python, Perl, JAVA, SQL is expected. Experience with LINUX/UNIX-based web deployment including Apache, CGI etc is desirable. Knowledge of a range of bioinformatics tools is an advantage. The ability to work in a team, good organisational and communication skills in English as well as initiative, flexibility and good learning ability are also required. A contract of 1 yearâ??s duration will be offered to the successful candidate, with a possibility of extension.
