SIPHS [1] is a peer support network for researchers in the biological and biomedical sciences. The site was featured in the June 2006 edition of PLoS Biology, in an article titled: "Leveraging the Knowledge of Our Peers: Online Communities Hold the Promise to Enhance Scientific Research" [2].
SIPHS recently released a social networking feature that lets researchers build their own private support groups. With the tool researchers can:
1. Categorize or tag their contacts by annotating them with keywords
2. Find potential collaborators by viewing contacts in their extended scientific network
3. Identify and message a group of colleagues based on entered expertise
