    BACKGROUND

    RTI International's Bioinformatics Program performs innovative research and development for government customers in the biomedical field. Our Program's mission is to provide the winning technical edge to our customers, primarily through innovation and collaboration wih academia and industry.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We aer currently seeking an exceptional Research Scientist to lead the ongoing development of our Bioinformatics initiatives by working closely with our technical team on an array of challenging projects involving scientific data management, biological simulation, high performance computing and genomics applications. This position is at our RTP, NC facility. A small amount og travel is anticipated. The qualified candidate will be repsonsible for defining, developing, and delivering innovative solutions to a broad range of clients within the Government and commerical industry. This will be accomplished by:
    Collaborating with other colleagues, identifying critical challenges and providing innovative solutions to leading-edge R&D and applied research on Government contracts.
    Interacting with customers to demonstrate and deliver results through written reports, briefings, and participation in program reviews.
    Leading the senior staff in the pursuit of funding for biomedical and bioinfomratics research from Government agencies (e.g. NIH) and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.

    REQUIREMENTS

    PhD in bioinformatics, genetics, computer science or a related field with 10+ years of post graduate experience. Exceptional candidates possessing an MS with 12+ years of research experience and publication record will also be considered.
    Substantial experience in biomedical applications, including scientific data management.
    Strong experience with modern programming languages like Java and/or C++ and tools like Metlab or Mathematica
    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
    Proven management skills
