    BACKGROUND

    Livestock Improvement (http://www.lic.co.nz) operates one of the most successful, totally integrated dairy herd improvement and farm management
    operations in the world. Prime emphasis is placed on genetics research, artificial breeding technology, animal evaluations, herd records management
    and dairy farm management advice.

    Livestock Improvement is undertaking an extensive research programme in the identification of QTL/genes that underlie traits of economic importance.
    The research programme includes an 800 cow F2 experiment that is currently being fine mapped, a genetical genomics programme on the same experiment
    where approximately 1000 micro arrays have been analysed, and a large scale genomic selection experiment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Research Scientistâ??s role will be to evaluate and implement appropriate statistical techniques to analyse the phenotypic and genotypic data.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The successful person will have a PhD in breeding and genetics, or statistics, and preferably an understanding of principles relating to animal science. The job requires programming skills, preferably C/C++ and/or Fortran, excellent communication skills and excellent computer knowledge.

    TERMS

    The position offered is full time and permanent.

    LOCALE

    Livestock Improvement is located in Hamilton, New Zealand (http://www.hamilton.co.nz). The research and development group has approximately 30 staff members, with 10 PhD qualified quantitative and molecular geneticists (several nationalities represented). In addition to the genetics, research in the areas of dairy cattle reproduction and animal health are undertaken.
