DESCRIPTION
The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation’s Bioinformatics Laboratory seeks a postdoctoral fellow with a PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science or genomics and molecular genetics. Candidate should have a good understanding of plant genomics and genetics research. Preference will be give to candidates with programming skills with at least one of the following languages: C/C++, Perl, PHP and Java; Capability of developing bioinformatics applications to aid basic research in plant science; Knowledge of SQL language and SQL Server. Excellent communication skills, oral and written, and analytical skills are highly advantageous.
The proposed work is multidisciplinary, combining genomics, informatics and molecular biology with analytical biochemistry, enzymology, and metabolic engineering. The postdoctoral fellow will work on the bioinformatics aspect of the project and will be responsible for constructing a publicly available database of genes and metabolites expressed in plant trichomes. The database will host experimental information on trichome metabolite profiles, metabolic pathways occurring in trichomes, and phenotypic consequences of gene knock-out or silencing. Besides the required responsibility in database development, curation, management and maintenance, the postdoc will assist in problem identification and recommend enhancements to analytical, processing, and statistical software.COMPENSATION
