As a vital member of our Computational Sciences group, you will perform computational biology analyses in support of translational research at Sunesis. You will have the opportunity to implement and apply diverse computational biology methods in aiding multiple groups and project teams to interpret, integrate and capitalize on the results of genomic, proteomic, and pathology experiments. You will also serve as a key partner in translating research findings to improved clinical outcomes.RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with translational research groups and therapeutic area project teams to analyze data, develop hypotheses, and design experiments
• Perform statistical analysis of data from high-throughput biology experiments such as genomic microarrays and mass spectrometry proteomics
• Identify, implement, and validate computational biology methods and infrastructure, and collaborate with IT and informatics groups
• Mentor computational and experimental Scientists on benefits and caveats of analysis and experimental design
• Remain current on scientific literature, and develop external reputation via presentations and publicationsREQUIREMENTS
• A Ph.D. or equivalent in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Biology, Genomics, Biophysics, Computer Science, or related field, with demonstrated accomplishments in biological data analysis
• 2-4 years of drug discovery experience, preferably in an industrial small molecule setting
• A solid understanding of biology and drug discovery principles, especially as related to cancer
• Proven experience analyzing genomic and proteomic data with a variety of statistical and machine learning techniques
• Hands-on programming experience, with a strong preference for C, C++ and Python in Unix and Windows environments
• Proficiency with relational databases/SQL (e.g., MySQL, Oracle platforms), as well as R/S-plus, ideally with experience using Bioconductor
• Strong multi-tasking and written/verbal communication skills
• The ability to excel in a highly dynamic, matrixed, team-oriented environment
• Familiarity with small molecule and protein structure modeling methods is a plus.WORK ENVIRONMENT
