BACKGROUND
RefSeq Curator position for sequence analysis and database curation project. The RefSeq collection, built and maintained at NIH’s National Center for Biotechnology Information, provides reference sequence standards for chromosomes, mRNAs, and proteins.RESPONSIBILITIES
The scientist will use specialized databases, bioinformatics software, and literature review to curate highly annotated sequence records for human and vertebrate model organisms. The curator generates the most complete and accurate reference sequences possible and expands annotation associated with reference sequences and corresponding Entrez Gene records. Excellent opportunity to use state-of-the-art computer systems and gain experience using bioinformatics tools developed by a leading computational biology research group. PhD in molecular biology or related field and excellent oral and written communication skills required. This is not a research position, but does require extensive molecular biology lab experience and substantial experience with sequence analysis. Previous experience with genomics or database curation is an advantage.
