BACKGROUND

The provision of Bioinformatics services to the scientific community in South Africa and the region is a crucial component of the National Bioinformatics Network's mandate. This permanent position provides an opportunity for an experienced bioinformaticist with a wide complement of Bioinformatics capabilities to fulfil this important role. It requires a highly motivated and skilled person who understands the Bioinformatics needs of today's high-throughput biologists.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Being situated at the NBN Central offices in Cape Town, South Africa, the Services Director will work closely with the other organizational portfolio's within the NBN and be responsible for managing the provision of Bioinformatics services, data distribution, conducting their own research, developing and deploying a robust high throughput Bioinformatics infrastructure, promote awareness and usability at nodes around the country, managing customized support and expanding service provision to support key institutes in other countries.

REQUIREMENTS

The suitable candidate will have a MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics or a related discipline and relevant experience with Bioinformatics services and research.

PREFERENCES

Proficiency in Java, Python or other modern programming language would be a further advantage.
