POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN PLANT COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY

BIOINFORMATICS TOOLS FOR PLANT GENETIC RESOURCES

BACKGROUND:
A two year post-doctoral position will be available from approximately January 2007 to develop and use bioinformatics software tools for the analysis and display of crop plant genetic diversity, revealed by high throughput molecular marker analysis of germplasm collections.

The Project, based in the laboratory of Dr Andy Flavell at the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI), will build upon the existing Germinate Database Project (http://germinate.scri.sari.ac.uk/cgi-bin/germinate/germinate.cgi) and will involve close collaboration with staff at SCRI (Dr David Marshall), the John Innes Centre, Norwich (Drs Jo Dicks and Noel Ellis) and other genetic resources institutes worldwide, including shared meetings and collaborative visits.

REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants with experience and interests in any of the following are encouraged to apply: Development of relational databases, web-based interfaces and bioinformatics tools, population genetics, phylogeny and evolutionary modelling. Programming skills, particularly PostgresQL/MySQL, Java/C++ and/or PERL/HTML/XML would be desirable.
