    BACKGROUND:
    St Jude Children's Research Hospital

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The Bioinformatics Associate Research Scientist in the Hartwell Center for Bioinformatics and Biotechnology takes a lead role in data mining, data visualization, statistical analysis, experimental design, database development, providing advice about methods, and training investigators to use bioinformatics tools. Works closely with research teams in other departments in the hospital providing expertise in the application and development of computational methods. These methods include, but are not limited to, the analysis of genes, transcripts, expression, genotyping, protein sequences, and structures. Participates in algorithm development in the Bioinformatics field and assists in the software development. Ensures that efficient and prompt help is provided to the SJCRH investigators.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Bioinformatics or related field is required.
    Minimum two (2) years post-degree experience in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics research is required. Experience with programming languages such as Perl, C, C++, or Java is required. Microarray data analysis and scripting experience using R or a comparable statistics package is preferred. Experience with pathways, comparative genomics, SNP or proteomics data analysis is desirable.
