BBC News is reporting that scientists have confirmed that the first genetically altered humans have been born and are healthy.
The children have mitochondria from two women, plus material from their fathers. Mitochondria are passed from women to their female children, so this change is inherited. The mitochondria from the additional woman were used to treat an infertility problem in the mother that donated the egg.
