The Boston College Bioinformatics/Computational Biology faculty are searching for an expert programmer for Bioinformatics algorithm development and implementation, graphical user interface and web server design, and data management. This individual will work with faculty, postdocs, and graduate students to create high-quality software implementations of our scientific algorithms, as well as build websites and databases which disseminate our research findings. The programmer will be expected to frequently resolve issues such as how to better visualize data, improve software efficiency and increase processing throughout.
The ideal candidate will be someone excited about contributing to cutting-edge research projects in Computational Biology. Self-motivation, flexibility, and creativity are critical, as the programmer will be expected to take the lead in design and implementation of features that will improve the usability of software, websites, and databases. Applicants should value collaboration and teamwork while also being able to work individually and prioritize multiple projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants should have, as a minimum, a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related area and substantial relevant programming experience. Previous experience in Bioinformatics is a plus, but not a requirement. The applicant should be an expert in software languages most successfully utilized in Bioinformatics such as PERL, C/C++, JAVA, CGI scripting languages and language extensions. We are also looking for familiarity with modern productivity tools such as MS Visual Studio, the GNU development package, and JAVA development environment. Web programming (html, php) and database management (e.g. mySQL) will be important for the job as well.HOW TO APPLY
