    DESCRIPTION

    There is an immediate opening for a bioinformatics programmer in the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth Medical School.

    The primary focus of the position is to develop and implement programmatic tools and workflows for a modern, mass spectrometry-based proteomics laboratory, including web interfaces for cluster-based parallel spectral matching programs, web-based data browsing and results reporting tools, and integration of information display with database-based data and information management.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Develops new tools for proteomics analysis.
    • Writes or adapts programs for laboratory use.
    • Works and collaborates with faculty, staff and students, as well as systems administrators, computer and statistical specialists and others associated with proteomics data flows.
    • Participates in experimentation, data analysis, and interpretation involving generation of mass spectrometry-based proteomics data.
    • Assists other experimentalists in the laboratory with proteomics experiments.
    • Participates in the research group: group education and dissemination of information regarding\ progress, assistance with manuscripts, and general contributions to further knowledge within the group.
    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Operational expertise in Linux/UNIX and Windows environments.
    • Skilled in Perl, PHP/cgi, and other languages used for web interface creation.
    • Some knowledge of C/C++. Windows programming experience is desirable.
    • Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
    • Knowledge of research and laboratory procedures and practices.
    • Careful recordkeeping and close attention to detail is required with ability to design and implement protocols and work with senior researchers as needed.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability and willingness to work as a team member.
    • 1 - 3 years of programming experience.
    • Familiarity with bioinformatics approaches used in proteomics and/or genomics research is desirable.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
