BACKGROUND
The Department has an active research program in evolutionary developmental biology studying the nematode satellite organism Pristionchus pacificus, the genome of which has just been sequenced by NIH (http://www.nhgri.nih.gov/12511858).
An overview of our model system can be obtained in BioEssays 28, 651-659 (2006).RESPONSIBILITIES
The project will concentrate on one or more aspects listed below:
- The 3D structure of the genome and long-range interactions.
- Enhancer prediction and classification.
- Modelling cis and trans effects on transcription.
- Impact of gene regulation on speciation events. Analysis of inter-species hybrids.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate should have
- A MSc degree or equivalent in bioinformatics or life sciences.
- Strong programming skills in a scripting (Perl and/or Python) and high-level language (Java and/or C++).
- Sound background in probability theory and statistics is desirable.
