BACKGROUND

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is seeking applications for a faculty position in Computational Epigenomics. The appointment will be in the Division of Biostatistics in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health (DEPH). Einstein is a leading research institution with a strong commitment to excellence in research. The DEPH is well recognized for its multi-disciplinary programs in epidemiologic, prevention, and health services research and is currently undergoing considerable expansion of its faculty base.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will work extensively with the members of Einstein’s Translational Epigenomics Program (TEP). The investigators in this program are leaders in the generation of high-throughput epigenomic data, using microarrays to study cytosine methylation, chromatin constituents (ChIP-chip), comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) and gene expression. The successful applicant will provide expertise in high-throughput data analytical tools working within a database environment, and the ability to integrate data across platforms for a systems-level understanding of epigenomic regulation in health and disease. Specific human diseases of interest to TEP investigators include hematological and other malignancies, fetal effects on adult disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, neurological and psychiatric diseases, and the effects of aging, drugs and genotype on the epigenome.

The successful candidate will be a faculty member in the Division of Biostatistics. He/she will have opportunities to develop an independent program of research, and to teach medical and graduate students. The position will provide opportunities for diverse research experiences in a highly collegial environment with potential for growth. Resources available include Einstein’s Bioinformatics Shared Resource, where there the focus is on management of epigenomic and other data within a relational database.


REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants should ideally have a doctorate in biostatistics or statistics, although applicants with appropriate experience and a doctorate in related fields such as mathematics or physics will also be considered. Further requirements include experience in microarray and high throughput data analysis, excellent verbal and written communication skills, relevant research and teaching experience, a record of peer-reviewed publications, and a strong interest in methodologic research.
