DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a Postdoc to join the Nutrigenomics, Environmental genomics and Toxicogenomics (NET) Project, working in the Microarray Informatics Team and in collaboration with the Proteomics Service Team.

The successful candidate will explore the development of bioinformatics tools at the interface of functional genomics and systems biology, by leveraging on semantic web technologies. The work will contribute to the development of an infrastructure for retrieving and integrating omic centric (i.e transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics) biomedical investigations archived in distributed resources. The post holder will work closely with other members of the NET Project, in particular an ontologist, a software engineer and a database developer. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the project, (s)he will also interact with several databases (including ArrayExpress, Pride, ChEBI, Reactome), research groups and other projects at EBI. The Postdoc will present the work via documentation, scientific reports and meetings.

REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in Bioinformatics. Experience with or knowledge of data integration or analysis using semantic web technologies is required. Furthermore, the successful candidate should have expertise in semantic web related principles and technologies, Java language and a basic understanding of web services. Knowledge of the ontology representation languages OWL and RDF (description logics based semantics) and the biology specific OBO format is necessary. The post holder should be familiar with bio-domain XML-based representation and exchange languages (including BioPAX, SBML, MAGE-ML and PSI-MLs) as well as XML related technologies, e.g. its parsers and query languages. We are looking for a candidate with excellent teamwork, organisational and communication skills. (S)he should be fluent in English as well as have the desire to work in an international environment.

CONTRACT:
A contract of 1 year’s duration will be offered to the successful candidate, with a possibility of extension.
