DESCRIPTION

A central goal of the EBI is to provide a comprehensive and reliable set of network services for data retrieval and computational analysis of biological data. These services are highly visible to the molecular biology research community and require constant support and development to remain state-of-the-art. We are currently looking for a Software Engineer to join our highly dynamic External Services team and help to develop our range of bioinformatics network services.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate should have a university degree in a Computer Science-related subject and at least one year of practical experience. The post holder should be fluent in C/C++ and Java, Perl and Unix; particularly in emerging technologies such as SOAP and JAX-WS. The Software Engineer should be proficient in the everyday use of Linux, MacOS and/or Microsoft Windows. Familiarity with the design of web-based application interfaces and deployment of Web Services is desirable. Knowledge and interest in bioinformatics will be advantageous. The ideal candidate should have good interpersonal and communication skills in order to be able to effectively interact with external user groups and in-house developers. Excellent English skills are a requirement.

CONTRACT

An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
