    DESCRIPTION

    We are seeking an experienced Windows Systems Administrator to support and develop EBI’s windows desktop network. The EBI has a mixed network environment that supports the varied research and service groups at the outstation. The post holder should be comfortable in a multi-vendor academic environment. The windows environment consists of over 150 PCs, laptops, thin clients and 200 users supported by a 2003 Active Directory infrastructure and Linux samba servers.

    The Systems group is specifically looking for someone who:
    • has experience supporting Windows XP in a Domain environment;
    • is comfortable troubleshooting OS, application and hardware problems;
    • has experience in administering Active Directory, DNS, WINS and DHCP;
    • is able to provide support and relate to users of all levels;
    • has Active Directory application deployment experience.
    We offer a varied and interesting role in which the successful applicant can get involved in project work as well as day to day support. Our current projects include deploying applications via Active Directory, securing the windows desktops using group policies, testing SunRay thin clients with windows terminal services and setting up a new training room.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in Windows and Unix/Linux skills are a benefit. Familiarity with installing and upgrading software is necessary. The successful candidate should ideally be used to working as part of a team, as well as being comfortable with working alone under his/her own initiative. Additionally, the post holder should possess good communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.

    CONTRACT

    An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
