The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), a division of the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), located in Rockville, MD, is a not-for-profit research center dedicated to deciphering and analyzing genomes and is the world leader in microbial sequencing. We are currently seeking several Bioinformatics Engineers to join our Bioinformatics group and our Biotechnology Core Facility.
Bioinformatics Engineers are responsible for a wide range of technical tasks involving the creation and use of software for the display and analysis of biological data.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The assembly and analysis of genome sequence data for a variety of eukaryotic, prokaryotic, and viral genome projects.
DNA sequence data management, assembly, and post-assembly analyses.
Data management, including internal data warehouse maintenance using the Unix file system and Sybase relational database and the development and maintenance of in-house Genbank submission software.
Web development and scientific presentations for the Pathema website
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in a biological discipline with a strong grounding in both biological sciences and computer science.
Solid knowledge of Perl, CGI, SQL, relational databases, HTML, and UNIX shell scripting is required.
Programming skills should include C/C++ and/or Java.HOW TO APPLY
