    BACKGROUND:
    A global nutritional company in Orange County seeking an intern in the area of microarray database development and analysis.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The internship in the group will be primarily responsible for evaluation of microarray and literature mining software from various vendors, provide a detailed report comparing at least 2-4 software tools. In addition, microarray data from public databases of interest to nutrition and artistry will be downloaded and analysis performed to showcase the power of microarray technology. A six-month intern will, in addition to the above, develop a web or non-web-based nutrigenomics database allowing for input and storage of new microarray data.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • US Citizens/permanent citizens
    • Graduate or Undergraduate students in computational biology, bioinformatics or computer science students with a background in or knowledge of biological (specifically microarray) databases.
    • Familiarity with microarray algorithms such as MAS5 and/or RMA will be extremely useful.
    • Familiarity with Linux and Windows (preferably) operating systems.
    • For six month position, experience in SQL/Oracle/database programming skills, and additional programming skills in languages such as Java, ASP.NET, C#, PERL, PYTHON is needed.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    From 3 months to 6 months

    COMPENSATION:
    Will be discussed during the interview. A housing allowance will also be given in addition to stipend.
