    The Open Source Health Care Alliance (OSHCA) is a collaborative forum to promote and facilitate open source software in human and veterinary health care. The UK NHS Information Authority (NHSIA) are co-sponsoring the second annual meeting of the Open Source Healthcare Alliance.

    This initiative follows an internal NHSIA workshop held last year, which explored the potential role of open source software within healthcare. This concluded that the collaborative, user driven model of open source software development has particular resonance in healthcare. While there are many issues to be resolved, robust business models for the provision of open source healthcare systems are emerging, and open source could have a significant role in the implementation of the NHS information strategy.
