    DESCRIPTION

Our bioinformatics research focuses on computational methods for Systems Biology. In the context of Systems Biomedicine, we develop probabilistic and statistical methods for the mining and integration of high-throughput and clinical data. Our goal is to identify key genes for the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. In the context of top-down Systems Biology, we focus on network organization and evolution in prokaryotes. With the Center for Microbial and Plant Genetics, we use microbial Systems Biology to model the pathogenic bacterium Salmonella typhimurium.

We cooperate intensively with experimentalists through the SymBioSys Center for Computational Systems Biology (http://www.kuleuven.be/symbiosys) and the Prometa Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility (http://www.prometa.kuleuven.be); hereby getting access to state-of-the-art facilities and original biological data.
