ABOUT US

The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) creates public databases, conducts research in computational biology, develops software tools for analyzing genome data, and disseminates biomedical information - all for the better understanding of molecular processes affecting human health and disease. As part of NCBI, the Computational Biology Branch seeks candidates to study gene regulation in the human and other complex genomes.

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with an experience in comparative genomics and bioinformatics. A major component of this work will rely on combining genome data mining, statistical methods development, and whole-genome data integration to decipher the semantics of the gene regulatory code.

REQUIREMENTS

Strong skills in statistics, genome data mining, evolutionary biology, and/or development of comparative genomics tools are essential. Ph.D. degree is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in comparative genomics or population genetics. Must have excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Applicants should not have more than 5 years of postdoctoral experience.

Excellent computational facilities and resources for the rapid achievement of research goals are available.

Applicants for Fellowship positions need not necessarily be U.S. citizens. Appointments are made either within the NIH Intramural Research Training Award Program or within the Visiting Fellows Program of the National Institutes of Health (http://www1.od.nih.gov/oir/sourcebook/prof-desig/postdoc.htm). Stipends are determined according to the number of years of postdoctoral experience.
