Position: Junior Researcher in Computational Systems Biology, 1-2 years.

DESCRIPTION

The Bioinformatics Laboratory of CRS4 (Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia) has a Junior Researcher position available to work in the area of Computational Systems Biology in the Ragno Group (Reverse-engineering and Analysis of Genome scale NetwOrks, http://www.bioinformatica.crs4.org/Members/alf/ragno).

The focus of this group is on developing algorithms for gene network inference by integrative analysis of gene expression and genotyping data, as well as metabolic and protein interaction networks from metabolomics and proteomics data, respectively. Inferred network topologies will be investigated using tools from complex network analysis. Dynamic capabilities of these large networks will be studied using general kinetic models. The goal of these studies is to gain insight into organizational principles governing the fundamental properties of living systems, such as robustness and evolvability, and eventually to understand macroscopic phenotypes, such as disease susceptibility and resistance, in terms of regulatory networks.

REQUIREMENTS

Applications are invited from those interested in the computational aspects of Systems Biology and Functional Genomics. The suitable candidates ideally have a PhD and/or sufficient experience in relevant areas, such as statistical analysis of gene expression, proteomics or metabolomics data, dynamic modeling of biochemical systems, quantitative genetics, and complex network analysis. Knowledge about the fundamentals of biology and programming experience with C++, Matlab and R is a strong pro. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by March 21, 2007.
