    BACKGROUND

    To strengthen our Bioinformatics support unit, the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) and the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA) are looking for a BIOINFORMATICS SOFTWARE ENGINEER. The Bioinformatics support unit is a joint IMP/IMBA service group, providing an interface between theoretical and experimental science.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The main responsibilities will be maintenance and development of the Bioinformatics computing infrastructure, including administration of UNIX servers, database management, high performance computing and cluster administration. We are looking for someone who is eager to independently pursue Bioinformatic data analysis and interpretation in close collaboration with research groups.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Successful applicants must hold a University degree in Informatics or related disciplines, and have experience in Bioinformatic projects. Solid skills in database management (e.g. PostgresQL), programming in JAVA, C and scripting languages (Perl, PHP), UNIX system administration and cluster management are required. Candidates should have a strong interest in Life Sciences, willingness and ability to take project responsibility and acquire project-specific knowledge.

    PREFERENCES

    Knowledge of modern statistical/probabilistic methods.

    Our institutes work in close collaboration and share infrastructure and administration. The IMP is a basic biomedical research center sponsored largely by the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, IMBA is a basic research organisation that is funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Both are centers of excellence in the life sciences and core units of the Campus Vienna Biocenter.
