RESPONSIBILITIES

The Scientist will be responsible for developing or acquiring and implementing novel data mining algorithms for large-scale genetic marker data and genomics data for the purpose of generating useful knowledge and applicable genetic information. In close collaboration with the computational biology group the successful candidate will develop and implement data mining schemes relative to genomics data like expression profiling, eQTL, pQTL and mQTL mapping. In a cooperative effort with the lead selection team, the candidate will participate in the consolidation and synthesis of genetic information leading to identification of candidate genes / QTL to be enlisted in the discovery pipeline. The scientist will also be responsible to ensure availability and implementation of most efficient tools for data mining (including maintaining awareness of external developments and achievements), and participate in or lead the development of tools, protocols and methodologies wherever appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS

•Ph.D. Molecular genetics / statistical genetics / bioinformatics
•Demonstrated expertise in biological applications of multi-relational data mining.
•Knowledge and experience with current methods of data mining
•Strong background in statistics, scientific computing and experience in use of C++ and PERL languages.
•The candidate should have clear communication skills, with the ability to state accomplishments and approaches succinctly and to summarize complex concepts in simple language understandable by scientists from a variety of disciplines.
•Experience in large dataset manipulation and visualization or in a scripting language under Windows or UNIX environment is strongly desired.
