DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in structural biology at the EMBL Outstation in Hamburg, Germany.

The position will be financed from the HFSP Research Grant Ref. RGP 55/2006 and the task of the successful candidate will be to develop and apply computational methods for the joint use of small-angle scattering and crystallography in the study of large macromolecular complexes, in particular, eukaryotic ribosomes and their translation initiation complexes. The position is within in the biological SAXS group, which has an extensive record of SAXS software development and of running a user-oriented synchrotron radiation beamline. This will provide a stimulating local working environment and extensive possibilities for collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

The candidate must hold a PhD and have a proven scientific record in structural biology, scientific programming or bioinformatics. Experience in developing and implementing data analysis algorithms is required. Knowledge of X-ray scattering techniques and/or macromolecular crystallography would be advantageous. Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with international teams are essential.

TERMS

An initial contract of 1 year duration with a possibility of extension depending on the funding will be offered to the successful candidate.
