Nature Source Genetics is a computational genomics company dedicated to the development and application of new algorithms designed to harness natural genetic variation in the improvement of crop plants. Located in Ithaca, New York, NSG scientists interact with a team of distinguished faculty from Cornell University and other major research institutions, in problems related to quantitative genetics, including optimization of population structure/design, QTL detection/validation, and QTL deployment in commercial breeding programs. In addition to the computational headquarters in Ithaca, NSG has access to experimental field test sites around the world. This position will work with and support a team of scientists working in the areas of computational genomics, statistics, quantitative/population genetics and plant breeding.REQUIREMENTS
• B.S. or M.S. degree in computer science, bioinformatics or related discipline
• Training and experience in Java and object-oriented programming required, with experience using design patterns preferred. Experience in GUI development using JFC/Swing is preferred
• Training or experience in building and using relational databases required Desired skills include data object modeling, database design and optimization, SQL development, and implementation of security and back-up recovery. Knowledge of MySQL is preferred
• Specific experience in bioinformatics programming in a language such as Perl is preferred
• Course work in statistics, probability theory and genetics desirable
• Ability to work in a group setting involving scientists both inside and outside of the companyHOW TO APPLY
