    Applications are invited for a full professorship in Comparative Microbial Genomics at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis, BioCentrum-DTU (BiC), Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

    BiC represents the largest concentration of academic biotechnological research in Denmark, and is involved in research and teaching in the areas of molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics and systems biology.

    The position is placed at the Center for Biological Sequence analysis (CBS). CBS presently comprises 45 academics, in addition to technical and administrative staff. The research at CBS is organized into eight research groups, where the new professor will head the group for Comparative Microbial Genomics. The center has its own experimental facilities, including microbiological laboratories with Affymetrix and custom microarray equipment. The seven other research groups address topics within: Chemoinformatics, Immunological bioinformatics, Integrative systems biology, Molecular evolution, Nutritional immunology, Protein bioinformatics, and Systems biology of gene expression (see http://www.cbs.dtu.dk for further details). Collaboration between the groups and other relevant DTU departments is highly encouraged.

    The position in Comparative Microbial Genomics will be offered to an individual who has made well documented research contributions at an international level within the area. Furthermore, it is important that the candidate has documented proficiency within scientific leadership and approach problems from a biological perspective. The current research topics in the Comparative Microbial Genomics group include: pangenomics, metagenomics, experimental use of comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) to identify unknown microorganisms, modeling of gene networks involved in virulence, prediction and experimental verification of bacterial transcripts (e.g., promoters, genes including non-coding RNAs and terminators), as well as prediction of expression levels and function of genes within bacterial genomes.

    Applicants for a full professorship must be able to document outstanding research at an international level within one or more of the research topics mentioned above.

    In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to

    • scientific production, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team
    • the ability to teach
    • the ability to promote and utilize research results
    • a broad experience base, including international experience
    • the ability to contribute to development of the department's internal and external cooperation.

    Applications, which should be submitted in English, must include an outline of a future research plan, as well as a publication list indicating the works viewed as scientific highlights. Also, teaching materials and unpublished research papers that should be given consideration in the assessment must be enclosed.
    The salary and appointment terms are negotiated in accordance with the current collective agreement for Danish University faculty members. All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
