BACKGROUND
The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is seeking applications for the new position of Head of the Division of Bioinformatics in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health (DEPH). Einstein is a leading research institution with a strong commitment to excellence in research. The DEPH is well recognized for its multi-disciplinary programs in epidemiologic and prevention research and is currently undergoing considerable expansion of its faculty base, particularly in the areas of molecular and genetic epidemiology. In addition, the DEPH has a strong Division of Biostatistics which interacts closely with Einstein’s Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BISR) and its users.RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will head and build the new Division of Bioinformatics. He/she will have opportunities to recruit new faculty, develop an independent program of research, and to teach graduate students. The position will provide opportunities for diverse research experiences in a highly collegial environment with potential for growth. Resources available include the BISR, which will be located in and managed by the Division of Bioinformatics. The BISR focuses on management of genetic, epigenomic, and proteomic data within a relational database. It consists of a group of bioinformatics programmers, and actively collaborates with basic and clinical science researchers to provide data management and bioinformatics analysis support. The BISR also collaborates closely with biostatisticians, other bioinformatics research faculty, and various AECOM shared resource facilities in proteomics, genetics, and clinical research.REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should ideally have a doctorate in the Biological Sciences, Computer Science, or Bioinformatics, although applicants with appropriate experience and a doctorate in related fields such as mathematics or physics will also be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to have evidence of leadership ability and a vision for the development of bioinformatics at the College.LOCALE
